THE HISTORY OF TOBACCO

Tobacco has been around for over 8,000 years beginning around 5000BC which was found in Central Mexico alongside corn based agriculture . A long time to convince people that inhaling it into your lungs has a direct relationship to….um, a lot of BAD things. 

Historically, tobacco was traded and given as gifts from Native Americans (it was originally used in religious ceremonies and medical purposes).  

By the early 17th century, scientists were discovering that smoking caused breathing issues and in 1632, the first state law made smoking in public illegal in Massachusetts. 

In 1901, 3.5 billion cigarettes were sold in the USA and with supply came demand and more cigarette companies were born. 

It took more than 100 years, 1964, (after the law in Massachusetts) for the US Surgeon General to report that smoking caused serious health effects which allowed the government to start regulating its sales.

Cigarettes of today contain more harmful ingredients than ever before making them more addictive and more dangerous.
